Jagonya Ayam with Carlin drivers Tom Blomqvist and Antonio Giovinazzi took points following the second race of the 2014 FIA Formula 3 European Championship today. Blomqvist added a fourth place finish to his race win from earlier today at Silverstone, while team mate Giovinazzi was eighth. Sean Gelael recovered well from a problem on the grid to climb back from 26th to 20th at the chequered flag.
As the lights went out for the second race of the day, Blomqvist made a strong start from his third placed grid slot and was dicing with the front runners. The Brit was soon racing wheel to wheel with Jordan King, in the sister Carlin car, as the pair fought for fourth place. After several corners side by side and King temporarily getting past, it was Blomqvist who held onto the fourth placed spot behind third placed man Antonio Fuoco.
Giovinazzi meanwhile lost out at the start after starting from fifth place and was eighth at the end of lap one, while a problem on the grid left Gelael battling down in 26th.
A relatively uneventful race saw Blomqvist hold onto fourth, despite a challenge late on by King who ran wide. That allowed Blomqvist a relatively unpressured drive home to fourth place, while Giovinazzi maintained eighth and Gelael recovered to 20th.
The weekend’s racing action will conclude with race three tomorrow morning at 09.15 local time tomorrow.
